Couponing Cash Back Essentials
One of the biggest changes to couponing is the use of cash back apps. Each app has it’s own system and rules but can be super useful in getting items cheap, free, and even make money sometimes.
Most apps listed have a referral program in which if you sign up using the stated code or link, you’ll receive a welcome bonus. These can change often and the values below are as of 5/23/2023 but subject to change.
Ibotta
For me, Ibotta is my most used cash back app. Over other apps, it has the most offers available and it also offers bonuses for redeeming a certain amount of offers which change weekly or monthly. Ibotta offers may or may not be able to be stacked with coupons – make sure to check each offer before submitting to see if the offer can be used with manufacturer coupons.
- Download the app here.
- Select the retailer you want to shop at
- Scroll or search for offers and press the + icon to save to your list.
- After shopping, press ‘submit receipt’ in the retailer you shopped at or go to the ‘redeem’ tab and take a picture of your receipt within the app.
- Most retailers will automatically bring up any saved offers found on the receipt but if you are missing some go to ‘find more offers’ to add more. You may need to scan the item’s barcode to verify.
- Just press submit and cash back is usually added the same day!
You can also use Ibotta for pickup/delivery orders for some retailers. For Target, link your Target account in the Ibotta app and make sure offers are clipped. Place an order for pickup, delivery, or ship and Ibotta will credit your account within 72 hours of you picking up or receiving the order.

Fetch Rewards
Fetch is another app strongly recommended for couponing. Fetch works with certain brands so you’ll get points back on every receipt (usually a few cents) but also has “special offers” for specific products that you’ll receive a set amount of points for. Fetch cashes out into gift cards of your choice and can be redeemed for as low as $3. Gift cards will vary in what amounts you can cash out from and some may vary in points needed. For the most part, 1,000 points will equal $1.

- After shopping, scan your receipt and receive points back immediately!
For pickup or delivery orders, you can go to ‘eReceipts’ in the account tab and link your email account. After shopping, scan the blue button on the home page to automatically scan for offers. You can also link your Amazon account and purchase on Amazon to receive points!

Shopkick
Shopkick is a rebate app where you can earn kicks (points) in several ways. The easiest way to earn kicks is to turn location on for the app and open it while in-store, you’ll get a small amount just for opening the app. You can also scan certain products in-store to earn more. Like other cash back apps, you’ll also get a set amount of kicks back for purchasing certain items and submitting a receipt. For most rewards, 250 kicks = $1. For offers, I find it easiest to take the amount of points offered and divide by 250 to get the amount back in $. For example, an offer worth 2,850 kicks divided ÷ by 250 = $11.40. You can cash out into gift cards or Paypal credit.
- Download the app here.
- Open the app while in store to get kicks for walking in.
- Scan the barcodes of listed items to get more kicks while in store.
- After purchasing any items, click ‘receipt’ in the retailer you shopped at.
- Click on any offers purchased in the ‘claim your kicks’ page. Take a picture of your receipt when prompted.
- Kicks are usually rewarded within 3 days but I’ve had receipts take a bit longer as well.
Some offers may be available online as well , you can find out by switching to the online tab and selecting the retailer you want to shop at. In order to get the kicks you’ll have to link an email address.

Shopmium
Shopmium is a bit different than the cash back apps above. These offers will act as a replacement to printable coupons that you would normally find online. This means you can not stack these offers with other manufacturer paper or printable coupons on one item. This can be a great solution if you often have trouble using printable coupons in-store or don’t have access to a printer. Here’s how to use it:
- Download the app here.
- Clip desired offers. I recommend clipping ones even if you don’t plan to use them right away as they can disappear without notice.
- After purchasing the items head to the ‘redeem’ tab and check you have your offers clipped.
- Take a picture of your receipt within the app and scan eligible barcodes when prompted.
- Cash back is usually approved within 72 hours. The cash back is automatically sent to your Paypal account.
Cash Out Minimum:
All cash back sent right to Paypal.
